Have you ever had one of those days when you’re sitting in front of your laptop, and suddenly, you find yourself questioning your decision to freelance?

I recently stumbled upon an X post where a freelancer admitted she was feeling a bit bored with her freelancing life. She mentioned that she longs for something more thrilling, like joining and working with a team, where she could craft solutions that make a real impact.

Well, it’s quite an interesting post to start a conversation.

I mean, because some freelancers came to drop one or two comments about how they’re also feeling bored with freelancing.

So, it got me thinking:

Have you ever felt the same?

Are you experiencing a sense of boredom in your freelancing life?

Is the repetitiveness of your independence starting to make you yawn?

For me, I can’t say I experience it often – or maybe just a tiny bit when I have no project to work on.

However, the fact that I’m learning something new daily alone keeps me engaged and away from boredom.

But I understand that for some, doing the same thing and having the same experience every day can become boring pretty fast.

And that is why I want to share a few things I do to avoid or cope with boredom, especially if you resonate with that X post.

Grab your favorite drink, find a comfortable spot, and let’s dive right in.

How to Avoid Boredom

1. Learn Something New: Through my years of experience, I have come to realize that one of the best ways to avoid boredom or cope with it as a freelancer is to learn something new. This is the reason why I am versatile and able to work on a wide range of projects with clients from various industries. I can write, design logos or flyers, and even build a website. If I ever feel bored with one project, I immediately move on to the next one in a different niche. So, you can choose to learn a new skill, a technique related to your niche, or even how to operate an AI tool. This not only makes you more versatile but also keeps things exciting.

2. Handle Personal Projects: One of the things you shouldn’t ignore when you start freelancing is personal projects. Apart from the fact that it keeps you sane when your clients start moving mad, it also saves you from boredom. For me, I avoid boredom by updating my website, shooting videos, and creating content in other forms. So, you have to keep working on something you’re passionate about, whether it’s a blog, podcast, building an app, or creating a digital product to sell online. This brings fresh energy and excitement to your life.

3. Make More Money: Being broke and having a low income can contribute to the feeling of boredom for any freelancer. I mean, if you don’t have different clients and enough money, you might begin to get bored of the whole thing. I’ve been there before, and I’ve come to realize that earning more not only improves your financial situation but also your motivation and excitement. This is to tell you that you need to seek higher-paying projects, negotiate higher rates, and upsell additional services to your existing clients. With these, you can say goodbye to boredom while providing real value to your client.
