The Price Is The Price

Hey — It’s Temidayo.

Last week, I learned something from Chris Do about developing the right mindset when it comes to confidently asking clients to pay more for your services as a freelancer.

Based on what he shared, I learned that you should never feel the need to justify or overexplain your rates to prospective clients.

Let me put it this way…

✱ – The Price Is The Price

Think about it – when did you last walk into an iPhone store and start arguing with the salesperson about why their phones cost so much?

“Well you see, this iPhone15 has a Super Retina XDR display, a 2556‑by‑1179-pixel resolution at 460 ppi, plus a sapphire crystal lens cover. And the manufacturing process involves…”

You’d probably just ask them to shut up already, right?

The price is already displayed on the tag. Their job isn’t to convince you it’s a fair price – it’s to sell you on the luxury experience and proven performance.

The same philosophy applies to your freelance business.

You’re not a commodity for which you need to overexplain or apologize for your pricing. You provide a premium professional service.

Successful freelancers know this.

They invest time in improving their skills and expertise. They build bad-ass portfolios showing their ability to deliver value. And they set their rates based on what that experience and caliber of work is worth to clients.

Period. End of story.

The price you quote? That’s what it costs to access your talents and get them results.

Take it or leave it, a prospective client can gladly pay your premium if they see the value. Or they can walk away and take their chances with a lower price elsewhere.

But what you shouldn’t do is overnegotiate, justify, or make excuses for your price.

The price is the price.

Trying to convince clients why your pricing is “reasonable” just cheapens your positioning.

You already know what you’re worth. and you’ve put in the work to back it up.

Just respect yourself, communicate your value clearly…and let clients decide if they want access to your caliber of talent or not.
