Quit Being a Commodity as a Freelancer

Hola, Unfxcked Freelancer👋🏼!

Welcome to another week of getting unstuck, taking control, and going pro as a freelancer. In case you missed my last newsletter, see the full archive of previous issues here.

Have you ever considered the fact that part of the reasons you are not getting clients is because you are becoming part of the ‘me too’ crowd?

You might be thinking I don’t know what I’m talking about, but let me tell you, many struggling freelancers are on this table.

They position themselves as commodities, just like any other service provider out there.

And the fact is, this is not the best strategy, especially in today’s market that is so crowded and competitive.

When you look around, especially on social media, it seems like every freelancer is using the same language you’re using.

It seems like they are presenting and selling the same skills as you do.

It’s as if they’re following a template they learned from a random freelancing guru on Twitter.

But the truth is, if you sound like a copy and paste of every other freelancer out there, clients might just think you’re a duplicate.

And in cases like this, standing out is nearly impossible.

So, what should you do?

Well, if you ask me, I would say:

You need to position yourself as a SOLUTION, not a COMMODITY.

Think about it…

What makes your skills different from other freelancers out there?

What makes your marketing and sales approach unique?

Whether you’re a writer, designer, or programmer, it’s not just about having the skill; it’s about being a problem solver.

In today’s market, if you can articulate how your skills provide solutions, clients are more likely to notice and engage with you.

This way, they won’t remember you as ‘That Freelancer’ but as ‘The Freelancer.’

Because they are not just looking for someone with skills.

They are seeking solutions to their problems.

So, don’t just say you can write or design.

Explain how your work addresses their specific needs.

Show them that you’re not just a freelancer but a solution.

It’s not about abandoning your skills; it’s about selling them differently.

Don’t be just another commodity in the freelance market.

That’s a wrap, Unfxcked Freelancer!

Catch you on the flip side,
